Recently I have been speaking to many business owners and professionals ; who ask me one common question “My Website looks beautiful, but why don’t I receive enough traffic there?”
Before I answer that question, a decent traffic to a website means 1000 unique visitors a month otherwise all your digital marketing, advertisement will be futile.
Why? Coz if your Website is a Pretty Face without any real data being captured , you have no proof of concept as to what kind of people are visiting your website, what are they doing and why they are coming to you. So without any solid proof of keywords that work for your website, any advertisement you do assuming these keywords is pure gamble!
So how do you make your website work for you?
Pinterest is the third largest social media platforms after Facebook and Twitter, but it works much different to the other services. Pinterest is the best platform to share your Visual content , we have used this platform to grow followers for The Art and Craft Gallery up to 7000+ followers which generates more than 40000 reach per month on Pinterest and accounts to 30% of the website traffic per month.
Are you ready to spread your marketing eggs in different baskets? Are you ready to start using Pinterest for reaching new clients?
Follow these 7 tips to gain better traction for your pins and increase your marketing reach on Pinterest.

Recently I was lucky to get an opportunity of interviewing Dr.Anand Deshpande, founder of Persistent System Limited, Pune, India.
I met him along with J4E founder member Vishal Methi and CS Nikhil Thakur to interview him about his journey of starting his business in 1990s and listing it on BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange). We could learn from his experiences and hindsight which will help us to grow up our business effectively .
Interview is published on Youtube, however this blog post is to share my insight about the conversation.
After completing his PhD in US and returning back home Dr.Deshpande started Persistent Systems Limited Company in 90’s as a small startup. Some interesting facts he shared about the initial internet setup and processing times stuck in my mind forever. In 90s it took him 6 months to get a telephone connection with an internet; and it used to take 10 min to upload and download just 30kbps data Every day in the morning they used to spend one hour to upload files for their customer in US and one hour in evening to download all the file which their customer send back with correction and suggestion or feedback. It was normal routine for them then. Now we have advanced so fast that we can get internet connection in 2-3 days whereas a wireless internet connection can be accessed within few hours. Yet we still complain about not having right resources and systems to run our business.
People built businesses in much adverse condition than what we have today and still people always complaining about lack of technology advancements. . And here I met
Dr. Deshpande who was talking about 1990s technology challenges and putting them in perspective rather than complaining about his struggle.
Lesson 1: Make the most of the resources you have available and gradually adapt with changing times and technology
Moving on we have discussion on how he managed cash flow in an early days. .In India those days it was big challenge of getting bank loan; it took him almost 6 months of process to get it approved .In the meantime he started working with clients who were ready to pay for the services upfront, so he could sustainably grow the business.
Lesson 2: Believe in yourself and the value you provide to the client. This helps you set a good service policy with clients. Working with quality customer right from the start is best policy to follow.
My next question to him was did he have any mentors and what was the role of mentors in his journey so far?
Dr.Deshpande highly recommends people to have business mentors and coaches. He doesn't expect the mentor to teach him everything. He sees mentors to be like sounding board to verify all the things that he comes across in business; to help trigger the problem. Also he believes that mentors should help in increasing reputation of business. This will help to increase business valuation and trust in the market. The one more advantage of having mentors; is they open doors for you to have new connections. They help you to meet new people , shows you new direction.
Lesson 3: I always thought that mentors or business coach should help us run the business correctly. However, now i learnt that business coach or mentors are people who guide us the path, ask us questions to help us introspect and get us introduced to new meaningful networks of people.
Next question we asked was based on something commonly discussed in business networks, i.e. which is best business model service or product ? . He replied there is no such thing as B2B or B2C. Today products and service industry has quite merge together so at end of the day we are constantly providing the service by selling product. So what matter is the experience your customer gets whether they buy your product or buy your service. Customer is something that we need to focus on rather than worrying about product base business or service business.
This is something that totally resonated with me, as business owner or customer I always value customer service the most.
Vishal Methi asked the most common problems he observed in networking events. Business owners seem to be generating lot of leads and yet they are facing challenges to grow their business. So we asked Dr.Deshpande what factors might be going wrong for such businesses?
Interestingly Dr.Deshpande believes lead generation is only 20% of the business, however having a right system and right people for right jobs will convert the leads. Having right processes and systems will ensure good customer service who will give you more referrals ensuring consistent business growth.
Lesson 4: We should look after customer’s journey rather than worrying about generating new leads all the time.
In the end we asked him how he is giving back to the society, where he shared about deAsara foundation which helps individuals willing to bring their business ideas to life.

Facebook Organic Reach is Not Dead: Here's what we learnt from 6 weeks of experiment on our Facebook Page
We all know Facebook landscape has changed in 2015 tremendously affecting the Facebook Organic Reach for business pages. Then we saw many marketers talking about being creative with our Facebook content and making connection with our followers. But many of small business owners out there are still confused what this means to them? What should they post to their pages?
No wonder almost 50% pages are missing from our news feed that we followed on Facebook via our personal account and business. When we checked these silent business pages manually, we realised that they have not posted content since December 2014 or have done 1-2 posts a week.
Our experiments check how Organic Reach on Facebook gets affected with changes to New Likes, Comments, Shares, Post Likes, Post Clicks or combination of these elements. 6 weeks of experiment on our Facebook page in January and February 2015
*Warning: This is lengthy post with too many screen shots of our Facebook Page*
*Disclaimer: This is our personal experimentation. Results for everyone might be different based on your individual Facebook page followers, reach, influences and best timings for post engagements*
So In January we started with following stats for our page: See Stats for Period 29 Dec 14 – 04 Jan 2015.
For this experimented we concentrated on positively increasing one element of our page at one time, so measure its impact correctly.
*All our efforts were done organically, without spending a penny on FB ads or any offline marketing. *
1.Gaining New Follo
wers: In first week of January we concentrated in gaining new likes for our page. We did the following activities
a.Took Part in Link Ladders – 3 a week
b.Promoted our page on different social media platforms
c.Invited Friends to like our Page
d.Received organic likes through our blog and information sharing posts
e.Received shout outs from 2-3 of our artists and art lovers
See image 15 Jan – 21 Jan Our Followers increased dramatically, but had minor impact on our organic reach and in fact people engagement rate dropped. Needless to say link ladder followers disappeared by up to 10% over time.
“ Engaging Followers are important than New Followers on Facebook ”
2.Sharing Content on Facebook Page – Testing for effects of Type of Posts, Engagement activities (likes, shares, comments, clicks)
We share 3-4 posts per day during Weekdays and 2 posts on Weekends based on the best engagement times for our page.
a.Inspirational and Funny Memes – Organic Reached Increase if posted at right times of the day
b.Educational Articles – Number of Clicks increased when our article was relevant for our audience, which resulted in 50% boost to our organic reach
c.Viral Video Clips – Sharing Occasional yet relevant video clip which was viral on Facebook already increased our reach by 80% (See Pic)
d.Artist Photo Albums – Sharing our Artist photo album also increased our organic reach by 20%
e.Questions – Our followers did not engage with this type of content. Dry status updates were cold turkey for us.
f.Free Offers – Free Offers by other businesses received High Clicks which reached our organic reach by 50%
g.Promotional Post about our Artists / Services – We received good comments and re-shares for these posts, which resulted in 20% increase to our organic reach
"Share Content which engages your followers to click, read and share. Post Likes and Comments are relatively less impacting on your organic reach"
Would love to have followers with organic reach???
You Need to Increase Your Facebook Followers and Share Best Engaging Content with them 4-5 times a day at right times to win Organic Reach Challenge on Facebook (proof below)

We all get only 24hours in a day and yet some people are very successful whereas some parents just can't say where the time goes. If you fall in to the later category, its time to claim your time back.
Being a Business Mum we have to juggle many things and are always multitasking and yet feel 24hours a day is not enough time to get things done. ‘Time’ being a precious resource for me, learning time management became eminent for me in last quarter of 2014. I completed Eric Lofholm’s Time Management Mastery Program in December 2014 and will be sharing some tips from this program in this blog post.
To my astonishment I learnt time management was nothing to do with multitasking or having a strong memory, but was tied to simple fact of managing expectations. At this point I also realised that there was so much unlearning to do, as time crisis was direct result of all the wrong habits got cultivated since childhood.
At the end of my time management course, the trainer asked us to share our learnings with our immediate family members and friends. Sharing and asking others to follow this new time management tactics has three fold benefits,
first being family members start to manage their time better,
second it means you can introduce new routine/ habits in the household with ease and third you get accountability partners around you to help you keep with the new found routine.
If your school going kids are sapping you out of energy and / or time ; then teaching them these tips will help you claim back few hours of time and sanity while setting them on right direction for future.
Application: Teach kids the mantra of “place for everything and everything in its place”. Involve them in creating designated areas for their uniforms, bags, shoes, socks and lunch boxes which are handy for them to complete tasks without any assistance. This will reduce morning stress and running around for getting ready for school.
Tip: Creating designated places for storing remote controls, video games, charging station for all gadgets can help everyone in the household
Application: Get your little one in habit of list writing for each day. They sure won’t be able to list or visualise all the things they need to perform in one day, but remember practice makes you perfect. Get a planner where every person in the family can list their daily task. Write simple task for yourself to set an example for your child.
Tip: Don’t fret if all the tasks on the list are not completed. If you tick all the activities from the list for the day, it means you have probably missed listing some tasks there! No one ever gets everything done. But cultivating this habit is more important than accomplishing those tasks.
Application: When kids receive birthday invites from school friends, just ask simple questions to seek their level of interaction / closeness to this friend. Then ask if they have any other important activities clashing with the birthday party timings like swimming, dancing, and/or music lessons. So ask them to choose if they prefer the birthday party of this said friend or attending their favourite activities on that day. Teach them to choose what they like without feeling obligated to attend all social events.
Tip: Don’t make a decision for them, but help them make decisions. Taking a right or wrong decision is irrelevant, as long as they get in to the habit of thinking through their choices in life.
Application: Teach kids to think all the activities they can do in one go. E.g. If kitchen and laundry areas are located next to each other, then it’s easier to put lunchbox for washing and dirty clothes for washing in one trip. This will save them energy from running 4 times from their bedrooms to washing areas. Making list of all the things they need to buy from a shop can also save you time from driving them to the shopping centres at all time.
Tip: Chunk many activities like laundry duties, house cleaning, weekly cooking together, so you don’t have to these things every day. Saving you time and energy!
Application: Teach kids to understand which activities can be achieved through multitasking and focusing techniques. Helping them connect in real world will be the best life skill you can teach them, in today’s virtual world. Developing the habits of working in focused blocked times will help them achieve their academic activities with ease.
Amazingly once you consider and list all the activities you are supposed to do every day, your brain stops sending you stress signals when you take time to stop and smell the roses!
Leave a comment about one thing you will implement from these time management tips for yourself.
